WESTON AT WORK
The Textile exhibit focuses on domestic cloth production as a central element of Weston’s early economy. Centered on spinning, weaving, and sewing carried out within homes and small workshops, the section explores how textile work intersected with agricultural life and household self-sufficiency. Artifacts including looms, spinning wheels, hand tools, and finished garments demonstrate the skill and labor required to transform raw fibers into everyday necessities.
Interpretive panels trace the gradual shift from home-based production to the availability of factory-made textiles, revealing how technological change altered work patterns and domestic life. By foregrounding the largely unseen labor of women, the exhibit situates textiles as both an economic necessity and a sustaining force within the community.
